Sewing Technology

About the Course

Sewing Technology is a one-year vocational program under the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS), conducted by the Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

It provides professional skills and employability knowledge for the apparel and fashion sector, covering stitching, pattern drafting, garment construction, and finishing techniques.

1 Year (1,600 Hours)

Key Learning Outcomes

Stitching

Make hand stitches on fabric following industrial safety standards.

Seams

Stitch seams, darts, pleats, tucks, gathers, frills, hems, casings, plackets, collars, sleeves, and cuffs.

Patternmaking

Draft, cut, and assemble patterns for various garments.

Fastening

Fix fasteners (buttons, hooks, press studs, zippers) and mend fabric neatly.

Designing

Design and sketch ladies’, gents’, and kids’ wear.

Construction

Construct garments such as tops, suits, nightwear, sari blouses, kurta-pyjamas, shirts, and trousers.

Machinery

Operate and maintain industrial sewing machines (lock-stitch, over-lock, zigzag, button hole and sewing machines).

Quality

Follow quality inspection procedures and finishing techniques.

Tools & Workshop Facilities

Each training center is equipped with modern tailoring and drafting infrastructure:

  • Single Needle Lock Stitch Industrial Machines (20 units)
  • Over-lock Machine (3 Thread), Zigzag Machine, Double Needle, Button Hole and Button Sewing Machines
  • Drafting Tables, Pressing Tables, Steam Press, Trial Room with Mirrors
  • Measuring tapes, tailor’s squares, French curves, scissors, pinking shears, thread cutters, and dummies for men, women & kids.
  • Classroom with computer, projector, A/C unit, and internet access.
